An explosion resulting from natural gas occurred in a building located at downtown Youngstown, Ohio, on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. The blast occurred in the afternoon and many people sustained minor injuries while one person was confirmed dead. Some of them were rushed to the hospital for treatment as well.

A blast occurred in the afternoon at approximately 3:00 p. m. at Chase Bank at the first floor of a 13-storey building. It also has numerous apartments. Both WFMJ and WKBN reported the incident almost immediately when it happened. He called the fire officials who promptly visited the scene and confirmed that it was a serious incident. They also urged the people to stay away from the downtown district for their safety.
Unfortunately, the corpse of the 27-year old missing employee was recovered late Tuesday night. This was confirmed by CBS affiliate WKBN, ABC News, and other media outlets. The coroner’s office arrived at the scene shortly after 11:In reference to the time of the occurrence, it was at 30 p. m. local time when the situation needed to be tended to. Other seven people were taken to hospital with different injures resulting from the blast.
US NEWS CURRENT tried to get more information from Youngstown Fire Department and Youngstown Police Department. The two departments are currently conducting their investigations into this case. Fire authorities are doing their best to prevent the area from further dangers and to determine what resulted in the blast.

Surveillance tapes from a store close to the blast site recorded the explosion. The short video, five seconds at most, captures debris soaring high through the air and smoke rising soon after the boom. The first floor of the building was severely affected and almost brought down according to WFMJ news.
Residents were advised by local authorities to vacate the area following more people being injured due to the fires. Drivers were also being asked to leave the vicinity to give room for first responders to control the situation. A structural engineer and the bomb disposal team had to be summoned to the scene because the area was constantly emitting gas and was highly inflammable.
Another witness Debora Flora, who works at Mahoning County Land Bank near the scene, told WKBN about her experience. She narrated having heard a loud explosion and seeing dark black smoke emanating from Chase Bank. Flora remembered well the moment that force of the blast made her utter the words, “Oh my God.
There are still some tensions in downtown Youngstown, as authorities work to handle the consequences of the explosion. The people living nearby are advised to avoid the area until it has been assessed if it is safe to go near it again. To date, the cause of the leakage of the gas that led to the explosion has not been determined yet.

The Youngstown Fire Department and other services are doing their best to prevent unauthorized access to the site and help victims of the explosion. Despite this, the emphasis is laid on protecting people’s lives and offering the required help to those who got injured.
