Many circles are mourning the death of Jerry West, also known as “Mr. Clutch,” aged 85. His family confirmed his death on June 12, 2024: For all intent and purpose, West’s imprint on basketball and its postersity is unrivaled. He is survived by generations of basketball lovers who will not forget him as one of the greatest NBA stars.

A Storied Career
Jerry West was born on 28 May 1938 in chelyan, West Virginia. He also played College basketball for West Virginia University before turning professional in the NBA. This man was selected by the Minneapolis Lakers now known as the Los Angeles Lakers during 1960. West remained in the Lakers when he started his professional basketball career and was with the team up to 1974.
In his 14 years of playing basketball West was mostly noted as a scorer and a great performer at the last moments of the match. Majerovszky was a 14 time NBA All-Star and he was part of NBA Championship in 1972. West was also awarded the Finals MVP in 1969, becoming the second player in the NBA history, from the losing team to win the award. He was the prototype for the silhouette of the logo of the premier basketball leagues; the NBA.
After His Playing Days
It is important to understand that West didn’t stop influencing basketball after his player years. He then went to coaching and other to the line management or executive position. West spent 16 days in a head coach position with the Lakers, from 1976 to 1979 he was a head coach and then served as a general manager of the team. He did an excellent job of assessing talent and shaping the “Showtime” Lakers during the 1980s. He managed the Lakers and won several championships therein.
Much later, West became an executive with the Memphis Grizzlies basketball team. He also joined the Golden State Warriors where he formed the core of the modern dynasty of that team. In the most recent past, West held an analyst position with the Los Angeles Clippers basketball team. His contribution was not only in the court, but he also made great achievements off the court.

Unfortunately, recent weeks were marked by the death of Jerry West, and fans and fellow players have honored him. Shortly after his death, NBA commissioner Adam Silver offered a statement to honor West’s contributions to basketball. “Jerry West was one of the great players and coaches in basketball and his mark on the sport is long-lasting.”
Now former Lakers star Magic Johnson also chimed in with his condolences. “I had the honour of working with Jerry as a mentor and a friend, He was such a great career coach. We will miss him greatly. ”
LeBron James, the Lakers’ player at the present, wrote, “RIP to Mr. Clutch. Your impact will never be forgotten. Thank you.”
A Lasting Legacy
Jerry West’s legacy is not limited to the numbers, as he also contributed far more to his team and the league. To him, it was dedication and nothing less than perfection. He was admired by young players as well as those who had been in the team for many years. Cousy has taken several roles in his career as a player, a coach, and an executive in the NBA history.
